The science portal offers visitors the opportunity to discover the world of particle accelerators, the quantum world as well as the creation of our universe.
The science portal consists of three exhibitions.
- Exhibition Our Universe: Go back 13.8 billion years to the very beginning of time. Discover how the Universe has become everything we see around us today. Conduct experiments to discover how scientists conduct their research. Let yourself be transported through the different phases of the Universe. Design your own star and project it into space, play with the proton scale and try to trap the antimatter.
- Quantum World Exhibition: We live in a quantum world! Quantum physics explains why the Sun shines. It allows us to make smartphones and understand how plants grow. Yet strange and wonderful quantum effects only occur at the tiny scale of particles... In this interactive exhibition, discover the world of particles as tiny as they are!
- Particle Accelerator Exposure: Particle beams travel at a speed close to that of light along the Large Hadron Collider, and billions of particles collide every second. Learn how CERN’s massive experiments record these particle collisions and how a global network of computers processes data from these collisions. Hear scientists talk about their work and discover how the technologies they have developed can be used in hospitals. Use our headsets for a virtual tour. Team up with other visitors to take a piece of experience underground. Design your own particle detection experiment.
