A great classic in a hilarious, contemporary adaptation!
While their fathers are away on their travels, Octave, son of Argante, has fallen in love with Hyacinte, a poor girl of unknown birth whom he has just married, while Léandre, son of Géronte, has fallen in love with Zerbinette. Terrified by the return of their respective fathers, they turn to Léandre's valet Scapin for help. Scapin's various tricks are designed to satisfy Octave and Léandre.
Les Fourberies de Scapin (The Tricks of Scapin) is one of Molière's last plays, in which he returns to Italian theater. The subject matter isn't profound, the text isn't in verse, the characters aren't original, but there's an unparalleled humor and vitality to this play. Molière had fun writing it, he had fun playing Scapin, he had fun with everything and he had fun with us, simply and without artifice.
